There are tennis courts 3 mins from the house, which you can book and hire rackets, so bring your trainers. As it is a pebble beach, you will need suitable water shoes. There are plenty of towels, but if you could bring beach towels it would be handy. You can also play golf, sail, windsurf or cycle.
Whitstable Oyster Fishery is a renowned restaurant and has an excellent, atmospheric right on the beach about three minutes from the house, but expensive, book on 01227 276 856.
JoJo’s is one of our favourite restaurants, but you need to book in advance. 01227 274591. its a good half hour walk, or a short drive.
Crab and Winkle is very good modern fish restaurant above the fish market in the harbour. 01227 779 377
Wheelers Oyster Bar is the oldest restaurant in town and one of the best but you need to book well in advance. .8 the high street. 01227 273 311
Shangri-La is a surprisingly good Thai with a lovely garden at 102 the high street. 01227 265 800
Pearsons Crab and Oyster House, (the Horsebridge) 01227 272 005 is very good, right by the Oyster Fishery, has a great sunday lunch offer.
Sportsman Pub, just close by in Seasalter is a very good pub for dinner and lunch, but you need to book – very popular. 01227 273370
Hotel Continental, 29 Beach Walk, Whitstable 01227 280 289 at the other end of the beach, a nice stroll, for lunch or dinner, faces the sea
Duke of Cumberland, High St 01227 280 617 has just been taken over by Tony from Salt Marsh – the Old Stables Bar is now a good restaurant serving locally fresh cooked produce.
Williams and Browns Tapas restaurant is good for sharing.
There are numerous delis, the best being Williams and Browns Spanish deli, opposite the tapas on Harbour street and Olivias, which is nearer to our end. There is of course, our local corner shop, Windy Corner, which sells organic produce and some fresh deli items. Note that sat is sometimes early closing, weds half day opening and some shops do not open on Mondays. (Quite old fashioned in its ways)
There is a great butcher on the high street, Theobalds, great for sausages and steak . There is also a health food shop, Herbaceous, which you can get soya, rice milk etc.. not forgetting the fish market in the harbour, a 10 min walk along the beach will get you there.
